Lorrie Gibbons, MS, ACS, ALMI
Lorrie brings her extensive operations and strategic planning background to develop plans to increase business value and increase process efficiency.
In addition to being a founder of Odyssey Planning, LLC; Lorrie is the President and Managing Principal at KAFL Insurance Resources. KAFL is an insurance BGA with offices in New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, working with advisors in the areas of individual life and disability coverage, employee benefits, and Medicare coverage.
She began her career at KAFL as Director of Operations, then transitioned to Vice-President. In each of those positions, Lorrie managed staff and business operations with a focus on strategic leadership/planning initiatives designed to grow the agency and internal support team.
Since 2010, an ESOP has been the majority owner of KAFL. Lorrie was primarily responsible for the managing of projected retirement benefits, cash flow management, annual valuation, and trustee and participant communication. Business owners that have engaged with Odyssey have found this background invaluable as they consider whether to utilize an ESOP as part of their exit strategy.
In her community, Lorrie works with organizations like Adoption Star, Golisano Children’s Hospital, and Lollypop Farm. She is currently training her family dog in pet therapy, so, together, they can volunteer and share the peace that animals bring to others. Along with hiking and gardening, Lorrie enjoys reading and watching endless sporting and theater events with her husband, daughter, and twin boys.
An entrepreneurial career has prepared Peter to work with business owners in assessing and maximizing the value of their business.
In 1991, Peter joined his mother to form KAFL Insurance Resources, a successful insurance brokerage agency. The company focuses on individual life and disability products, employee benefits, and Medicare products. Peter works with businesses in a variety of fields, including insurance agency owners, property and casualty agencies, and benefit firms to create a life insurance team or increase that team’s profitability.
KAFL’s original founders all successfully transitioned their ownership in different ways, including utilizing an ESOP to purchase 98% of the stock in 2010.
Peter and Lorrie transformed KAFL Insurance from an owner-centric company to a team leadership model. By creating an empowered leadership team and documented processes, business value increased significantly. Peter’s areas of expertise include:
- Determine value drivers that will maximize business value
- Create plans to transition the business to key employees or family and minimize taxation
- Prepare company to be sold to third party
When not working with business owners, he spends his time as a Commissioner, Fire Captain and EMT for the St. Paul Blvd. Fire Department in Irondequoit, New York. He enjoys staying active, the outdoors, and spending time with his three boys!
